Xbox: we will not leave the consoles for streaming
Microsoft is more focused on the player than on the devices.
As part of an interview he gave at E3 2018 , Matt Booty, head of Microsoft Studios , denied that the streaming technology that director Phil Spencer talked about at the Xbox conference over the weekend was going to replace the consoles. Booty explained that, faced with the vertiginous change of technologies and devices, Xbox always focuses on players and offering them new places to access their games.
"I guarantee that, when you come back in 10 years with [a hypothetical] State of Decay 5 , these devices will have changed." Booty imagined first. "I bet they'll be different, maybe they're virtual reality headsets, a giant tablet, an Xbox the size of a phone, who knows, but I bet we'll keep talking about games and players , and that's why we're focused on the player and not This does not mean that we will leave the consoles to do something different, it means that we know that there are more ways in which people like to play, in addition to the console and that's why we go for mobile phones. "
By the end of his Sunday conference, Xbox left the announcement of a new streaming technology . "Our cloud engineers are working on a network of video game streaming, " revealed Phil Spencer, "(...) to release the console-quality game on any device." It should be noted that the director also revealed the signing of 4 studios and the foundation of a fifth, while Booty, in this interview, also talked about the games they will do and the platforms for which they could leave .
